Dress to Impress

Choosing what to wear for an interview is an important part of making a good first impression. Here are some tips.

For Women:
  • Natural looking make-up
  • Go light with cologne or perfume
  • Light colored nail polish on freshly manicured nails
  • Suits in conservative colors: Navy/dark blue, dark brown or dark grey with white or cream colored blouse with a modest neckline.
  • Simple jewelry, no more than a ring on each hand, one necklace, a bracelet and a watch. Avoid jewelry that dangles or makes noise.

For Men:
  • A conservative haircut is best, if you have a beard make sure that it is neatly trimmed
  • Very light cologne, if any
  • No more than one ring on each hand with a professional looking watch
  • Conservative suits in solid dark colors or a blue/gray light plaid in wool or wool blends
  • White shirts are the best, but other colors are fine - no prints, solid colors only
  • Ties in solid or small patters - avoid anything bright or flashy

What NOT to wear:

  • Sunglasses
  • Casual shirts
  • Shorts
  • Unprofessional shoes
  • Jeans
  • Backpacks
  • Wrinkled clothes

For Women:

  • Unprofessional bags
  • Large or flashy jewelry
  • Open-toe shoes
  • Heavy make-up
  • Blouses that expose your cleavage

For Men:

  • Short sleeves
  • Loose tie
  • rolled-up sleeves
  • Lanyards
